Quick Tips Thursday

4 basic but interesting tips for our daily kitchen routines.

Today I will share some simple but very useful kitchen tips, which has saved a lot of time and made my life simple in the kitchen. You will be surprised how things are made easy and am sure you will start looking for more tips.

Peeling Garlic in seconds without using a knife.
Take a garlic and break it randomly. Place it in a container, either small or big whichever is available, and close the container with a cap so that the surface area is increased. Start shaking the container for 15-20 seconds and you will be surprised to see that all the garlic is peeled. Depending on the type of container and cap it might not all get peeled the first time, but just keep repeating the process and you will see the magic.

Cutting Onion without irritating your eyes

Put the onion in the freezer for 15 minutes before cutting it and start cutting it without tears rolling from your eyes. The theory behind this method is that the cold inhibits the onions from releasing the eye irritating chemicals.
There are a couple of ways to cut onion without irritation in the eyes but I found this the most useful because the flavor of onion is retained, and more importantly, it doesn’t affect others in the room as well. The downside in doing this is that the onion becomes harder to cut.

Naked Potato in One Step

Boil the potato as usual and once it is done drop it in a vessel filled with cold water for few seconds. Then just grab it with both hands and pull apart with a slight twist and you will see the potato sliding out of its skin completely.

Peeling Banana-Upside down method
I have seen many people getting annoyed while peeling a banana so I thought of sharing a simple trick which will make it very easy. This method is used by monkeys and it works perfect for us as well.
Hold the banana stem pointing downwards and pinch the top to tear the skin, making sure to do it with care. Once this done start peeling the banana in the usual way and start enjoying it. By doing it in this way we can avoid smashing the banana. Monkeys are brilliant right?
